The development of the YogaU Method of teaching "Yoga for Children" has been a long and interesting journey.
I developed the method based on my life experiences of working as a Nanny in London. My own yoga practice and study of the philosophy, the knowledge gained in becoming a mother, my formal training as a British Wheel of Yoga teacher specializing in Yoga for pregnancy and Yoga for Children.
I discovered that many of the principals of good yoga practice handed down to us over the years still fit into the current framework of what is good for children today. This forms the basis of the YogaU teaching method. Children face a much changed world today than that experienced in the past, stress related and behavioral issues, appropriate action, expectations of adults and formal schooling, exposure to television, computer games, poor eating habits and lack of exercise can all have an impact of child development.
It is important to understand that good yoga practice can have many life benefits but cannot necessarily state it can "cure" problems like ADHD or eating disorders. What can occur however, as all the body's systems are brought into balance, is a new and improved state of well being within the child which can help them take positive individual action in other areas of there lives.
YogaU classes within the school environment can often bring about a positive change of behavior within the child, thus having a positive affect upon the dynamics in the classroom. Respect is encouraged, children are empowered to know that they have a right to be treated with respect and express that respect to others in there daily lives.
